![]() It's up to you to decide if either will work for you. I've only loaded one up with beanbags in the store to wear it around for about 10 minutes, but when I did it still felt pretty decent even with 50 pounds in the 65L version.Īt any rate, they're very different packs. In my research, it seems that the biggest complaint about the Atmos is that it can get uncomfortable once you hit about 30 to 35 pounds of gear, as the suspension system in the harness compresses, and the pack's internal frame then presses into the user's back and is quite uncomfortable. If you're carrying heavier weight and/or going on longer trips, it is likely the better option. The Aether's design and comfort is damn near outstanding. ![]() OSPREY AETHER 70 UPDATEmight wait to see if they update it for 2015), it is geared towards lighter-weight traveling. While the Atmos is a great pack (have lusted after & wanted to buy one myself for two years now. My question is, how much of a difference am I going to notice on a trip in the 2-4 day range between the suspension systems of the Atmos vs the Aether, and is it worth the extra money to upgrade?Īny help or insight would be greatly appreciated! Also, if it helps, I'm 6'1" and 185 lbs, in pretty decent shape, and I sincerely doubt my fully loaded pack would break 40-45 lbs, almost certainly staying less than that in most cases. ![]() He recommended instead the Osprey Aether 70, which seemed to have substantially more padding but also cost $100 more (taking into account the sale I got on the Atmos). However, I went to REI today to get a sleeping bag, and while talking to the sales guy, he led me to believe that the Atmos is really geared towards ultralight backpacking and isn't necessarily good for longer hikes as a result. ![]() I also have never had any bad luck with anything from Osprey, so it seemed like a pretty solid deal. It's comfortable, seems to flow air well, and distributes weight comfortably. I was able to pick up an Osprey Atmos 65 at an EMS sale last week for $187 (down from $249), and I really like it. I'm pretty new to backpacking (gone before using friends' old gear, but finally buying my own), and I have a question about packs. ![]()
